Help! My Engine Keeps Stalling!

We here at Righter’s Auto Repair make it our mission to keep your vehicle running safe and efficient at all times. If your engine keeps stalling, bring your car, truck, or SUV into our shop so we can have a look at it. Stalls aren’t just caused by bad spark plugs. There are other things that can cause vehicle stalls. Here are three common issues that will stall out your automobile until you get them fixed.

Electrical Failure

You might not drive an electric vehicle but your automobile has plenty of electrical components in it and any one of them can make it stall. The primary electrical component is the main computer chip. This reads sensors from all vehicle systems when you start and drive your car to make sure everything is operating as it should be. If something goes wrong, the sensor will send a message to the computer chip and the computer chip will alert you. A faulty computer chip or sensor can make your vehicle stall, as can loose electrical wiring and/or connections under the hood.

Vacuum Leaks

Your car, truck, or SUV’s motor creates a vacuum when it runs; it’s just a natural byproduct of how a combustion engine works. Vacuum lines, also known as hoses or tubes, take the vacuum generated in your vehicle’s exhaust manifold and routes it to components that need it, such as your brake booster or windshield wiper motor. If these lines have cracked, have holes in them, or have loosened from their connections, your vehicle components lose precious vacuum pressure they need to operate. As you can imagine, this will cause your automobile to stall.

Clogs

Let’s talk about your vehicle’s ignition system now. In order for your car to start, your spark plugs must light air and fuel in the combustion chamber to power the engine. Without this air and fuel mixture, your vehicle cannot start or run. Enter the air and fuel filters. The air filter prevents dirt and road grime from getting into your engine and ruining crucial engine parts. The fuel filter prevents fuel sediment from getting into your engine, as well. If either of these is clogged, your engine won’t start or could stall, especially when you’re sitting still and just idling.

These are just some reasons why your engine keeps stalling. Righter’s Auto Repair in Grand Ledge, MI, would be happy to inspect your vehicle and fix the cause of the frequent stalls. Call us today to set up an appointment.
